Now though, they’ve decided to own up to the fact their movie has nothing to do with the monster at all and are trying to blame a 16-year-old kid!

Not everyone who benefited from the software glitch, did so knowingly. Since 2001, hundreds of rail riders have been rewarded from a computer gremlin which allowed vending machines on the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad to dispense free tickets on some debit card transactions.

The problem was first spotted in May, reveals the New York Times, and led to the uncovering of a series of suspicious transactions tied to a pair of debit cards issued by First Republic Bank. New Yorker Lisa Foster Jordan, 38, was arrested on May 28 and charged with fraudulently obtaining thousands of tickets and MetroCards worth about $800,000.

Last week, the police arrested two more people in connection with the scheme, Foster Jordan’s husband, Cary Grant (yes really!) and Chris Clemente from Manhattan. Lawyers representing the trio say they will be pleading not guilty.

Now it seems the New York-based Splinterheads team has put their three websites up for sale. So far though, they haven’t had much luck with bids ‘shooting up’ from 99 cents yesterday to $1.04 today.

That won’t change any time soon, although Gotham News says kindly: “As we feel a bit bad for them, we might dig into the Gotham News purse and get it up to $2. Or maybe not.”

Part of the problem, monster fans say, is that the Splinterheads movie appears to have nothing to do with monsters – it’s about carnies instead.

Nicky Papers, who started up her own website to investigate the mystery, was unimpressed with the development. As she correctly says, “What good is seeing a movie about a bunch of carnies if the Montauk Monster isn’t involved?”

The super-cool and sharp-suited executives portrayed in the critically-acclaimed television drama Mad Men are nothing like their twenty first century counterparts, you won’t be surprised to learn. In the AMC drama, the male chauvinists of Madison Avenue work hard and play hard and enjoy three-martini mid-morning lunches while they’re at it.

These days though, most of the execs have left Madison and the ones still there have yoga mats rolled up under their desks. And forget about those smart grey flannel suits. As the boss of Drogba5 tells the New York Times, “Agency people dress like well-paid teenagers.”

And at Madison Avenue’s Young & Rubicam, digital art director Andrew Stevens, adds: “I only wear a tie because I don’t have to.”

The hallowed hall is now undergoing major renovations, with a new venue being built inside its ‘historic’ walls, called The Studio. The new downstairs performance space will hold around 275 people, and is set to open in two months. A venue rep tells us that they plan on having shows “every night of the week” but would like to include a party night on Mondays and a comedy night on Sundays. Great, more noise!

“We aren’t sure if it is the Batman effect or what, but sales to men have been going through the roof,” Kieran Hughes, director of Precious Collections tells the Atlanta Constitution Journal. Has the world gone mad? Not according to Deborah Ashley, managing director of Luxelegwear.com, who says: “Men have begun to dominate the hosiery market once owned by women.” The company carries 13 styles designed specifically for men.
